Third Annual Adventure Trek at the Oxbow: Kickoff to Summer Festival
About this event
The Archaeological Research Institute (ARI) invites you to a weekend of discovery at the Guard Archaeological Preserve (GAP) in Lawrenceburg, IN, and the scenic Oxbow area. The Adventure Trek combines movement, exploration and hands-on learning. Start with a 5K walk or run through the preserve, then step into the role of an archaeological researcher. Along the trail, teams rotate through six interactive stations inspired by real field methods in archaeology and preservation. Each stop features engaging challenges that show how sites are found, studied and protected, with recognition for standout costumes, team names and final challenge creativity. Registration includes access to both the 5K and Adventure Trek, with participants welcome to join one or both. The Celebration, Festival & Afterparty runs features food trucks and local vendors, live music, activities and community booths, plus a dunk tank and access to the ARI Atlatl & Spear Range. Guests can also explore the 2026 Experimental Gardens and connect with the Land Stewardship Team.
